Out for a Walk on Your Jeans?
We could write a book about the length of jeans. Suffice it to say most jeans are too long and need to be shortened. If you're a jeanophile, you know that the original hem needs to be reattached. There's nothing worse than jeans looking like your mom chopped them off for you or took them to the dry cleaners. Not to brag, but at nextdoor we have perfected the art of reattaching the original hem. If you shop at nextdoor, you also know that we do this free of charge when you buy your jeans from us. You don't have to take them to the tailor, try them on again, leave them for a week and then pay up to $25.00. All that is done right at our store for you. We have them ready for you within a few days, sometimes even the same day. If you don't shop at nextdoor, you should, but you can bring us your jeans purchased elsewhere, even your husband's. Course it's not free, but we'll do a great job and you can do a little shopping while you're there!
To What Length Should You Go?
So now that you know how to have your jeans shortened, the next decision is how long should they be? That's where we come in. Having shortened over ten thousand pairs, we feel we have something to say about it. For starters we're just going to deal with bootcut, flare and trouser jeans. We'll leave the skinnies and leggings for next time. We all know we want to look fabulously tall and lean in our jeans even if we're not. So here's the thing, if your shoes show, your jeans are too short. You want your jeans to just skim the ground, about 1/4" short of dragging. It gives you that long continuous line even if it's an illusion for most of us. The next thing you need to deal with is what shoes you will be wearing. Here's the thing, you can't have it all. You can't wear one pair of jeans with flats, comfy heels and killer spikes. We're good, but we're not magicians. You have to pick one height shoe and go with it. And yes, it means you have to have more than one pair of designer jeans. We'll say it again, there's nothing like a great fitting pair of jeans. And there's nothing worse than a pair of jeans that are too short!
Size the Day
What size should I buy? That's the question of the day, everyday at Nextdoor. To which we reply, you won't know till you've tried on at least six to twelve different pairs. You have to make the commitment, give yourself a good hour, head for our dressing rooms and let us bring you a lot of jeans to try till the perfect pair is found. It's important to have a really great selection and lots of expert help. At Nextdoor we have over 17 brands and 600 pairs to choose from. It's also important to keep an open mind and trust your sales person, as she can save you a lot of time and money. We all know how maddening it is to have a bunch of ill fitting jeans in our closet that were bought in an act of desperation at the mall or online. The tendency is also to buy your jeans too big. If they are comfortably loose in the store, they will be too big as every jean will stretch a half size as you wear them. There's nothing like a great fitting pair of jeans and nothing worse than a pair that's too big.
The Skinny
No, you do not have to be skinny to wear skinny jeans. It's all about how you wear them that makes the difference. Having just surfaced once again from a Wisconsin winter, we all know how great it is too throw on your favorite skinny jeans with a pair of boots and a big oversized sweater. It's the one time that living in the frozen tundra makes fashion fun as well as practical. But thankfully that is all behind us for another seven months or so. So now what? Well a picture is worth a thousand words. Wear skinny jeans with killer heels, your favorite flats, barefoot if the moment is right and of course your favorite flip flops. You can wear a skinny jean scrunched around your ankle or cuffed for a casual look. That solves some of the length issues, which is nice for us as well as you. Of course we'll always shorten them for you if need be.
